Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day!

I remember my father, who passed away 24 years ago, when he was 63 after two-year hospitalization. Luckily I have a lot of happy memories with him. He was born in a small island in Shikoku. He became a captive soldier in Siberia for some years. I was often told the story about the captive life when he was drunk. He loved reading, listening to classical music, writing, and drinking. And since my daughter was born,  every evening he visited my house to see her on the way back to home. He was a strict father to his daughters, but a very affectionate grandfather. He loved his granddaughter sooooooooooo much. He looked very happy to hold her in his arms. Happy memories.

  2. Sometimes or maybe most of the times, it only takes a grandchild to make our fathers less strict and more mellow on his rules. :D

  3. Your father did not have an easy life as a young man imprisoned in Siberia! I'm glad he got home ok and raised you and loved his granddaughter. :)

  4. I think this happened alot with men from past generations. My husband says much the same about his grandfather who was also a POW of the Russians during WWII. Apparently he was very hard on my husband's mother, but mellowed quite a bit when my husband came along. :)
Glad you have good memories of your father and that your daughter does too!

  5. Hoi Annie, I hope you cherish the memories 'how he was a great grandfather to your daughter.' Perhaps that was who he really was in his heart.
